Sausage Factory hits third season home run as official hot dog vendor for Reno Aces
With Thursday's Reno Aces opener, baseball fans will again line the stands for peanuts, beer and a hot dog made exclusively here in Carson City.
For the third consecutive season The Sausage Factory is the official hot dog and sausage for the Reno Aces. Some 4,500 pounds of product were sent off to Reno last week in preparation of Thursday's opening day.
The partnership is tied to the success of the family-owned Sausage Factory, which has been producing the finest gourmet sausages on the market, using whole, straight cuts of meat at its Carson City factory on Sage Street since 1960 and before that in New Jersey beginning in 1954.
"Baseball and hot dogs go hand-in-hand, especially when they are quality hot dogs," said Joseph Tonino, president of The Sausage Factory. "We're happy the Reno Aces are supporting my local Northern Nevada business and will have great success this season."
The Reno Aces concession area will offer six varieties of Sausage Factory hot dogs and sausages. They are the All Beef Brisket Dog, the Aces Pork and Beef Dog, the Beer Cheese Brat with Wild Horse Amber Ale from Great Basin Brewery, the Cooked Corned Beef Sausage, the Italian Sausage and new this year, the Tri-Tip Dog.
Last year the Sausage Factory sold 23,500 pounds of hot dogs and sausages to the Reno Aces. This year the company plans to increase the amount sold at the stands through promotions that will highlight how its gourmet hot dogs and sausages are considered among the best tasting in the country.
"Quality in, quality out. The Sausage Factory only uses whole cuts of meats, not trimmings and byproducts like our competitors," said Tonino. "So when you bit into one, you taste the quality. With our hot dogs and sausages, you don't need condiments. They taste good on their own."
Driving the message further, Tonino notes that most hot dog companies mask the quality of the meats with water filler, spices, smoke and sugars. With Sausage Factory hot dogs and sausages, the recipes are designed to let the flavors come naturally, he said. And because of this distinguished feature, the sausages are served at high quality restaurants throughout the United States.
The Sausage Factory also sells its products online, locally, at Video Centro Market on Highway 50, at its factory store, 259 Sage Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and at Scolari's stores throughout Northern Nevada.
The Sausage Factory is an independent USDA manufacturing plant in Carson City, Nevada. Its famous Italian Sausage originates from Northern Italy, at the turn of the 20th century. Joesph Tonino's grandfather was a ranch butcher. Giuseppe Tonino walked the Italian Alps from farm to farm, expertly processing animals to exact specifications. He then opened a butcher shop in our home town of Chiaverano, Italy.
His son Luciano brought those secret family recipes to America in 1946, when he founded Ideal Sausage Factory in South Hackensack, New Jersey. Tonino's father, Alcide came on board and the East Coast family business boomed.
Alcide Tonino fell in love with Northern Nevada and in 1968 he purchased The Sausage Factory in Carson City and retire here in 1999.
"As a third generation Tonino butcher, it is my privilege to carry on the family traditions. We continue to hand-craft Italian delicacies and American favorites in the time-honored fashion, using only the finest cuts of meat," he said.

The Reno Aces begin its 2014 season Thursday at Aces Ballpark, 250 Evans Avenue against the El Paso Chihuahuas with game time at 6:35 p.m.
Tonino has tickets to the opening game. The first six people who come down to the facility between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. can have the tickets for free.
